Moyola Youths 2-1 DC Youths
September 29, 2008
Saturday 27th September saw Draperstown take on an experienced Moyola side in their first game of the newly formed North West and Coleraine District Youth League.
Draperstown got off to a bad start finding themselves 2 down after 10 mins. A mixture of nerves and hesitation giving Moyola the chances which they converted well.
After the early lapses Draperstown began to settle and play some attractive football. The Draperstown wingers and front two gave Moyola plenty to think about with their pace and with a bit more luck Draperstown could have got a goal or two. Moyola were not out of it however and the runners from midfield caused a problem for Draperstown who defended doggedly until half time.
Draperstown made a couple of changes at half time in a bid to bolster the midfield and stop the Moyola runners. The continued Draperstown pressure paid off when they were awarded a penalty for handball. The captain, Ryan Mc Guigan stepped up and drilled the penalty to the bottom right hand corner to make it 2-1. The young home team continued to push for the equaliser but were lucky not to go further behind when Moyola missed a great chance with the Draperstown keeper stranded.
At the final whistle Draperstown could consider themselves unlucky not to have forced the draw. In the end it was a very good all round performance against a more experienced team.

Draperstown Celtic Golf Classic
September 15, 2008
Draperstown Celtic held their fifth annual golf classic at Moyola Park Golf Club on Friday September 12th when 25 teams enjoyed an excellent day. After a very wet period of weather in the previous days, it was sunshine all the way for the competitors who made the most of the good day and posted several excellent team scores in search of the extensive range of prizes.
Thanks must go to all the members of Moyola Park Golf Club for the use of the excellent facilities and for the welcome shown to all who took part. An excellent meal was enjoyed by all and thanks are to be extended to the caterers for their contribution to the day.
Days such as these are an important part of any club’s fundraising and Draperstown Celtic would like to thank all those who sponsored teams and tee boxes. Thanks are also extended to all the competitors who took part and we would hope to see everybody there again next year when the Golf Classic is scheduled to be on the last Friday of August 2009.

Newbuildings 1–2 Draperstown Celtic
September 9, 2008
Draperstown recorded their third league cup victory in a row with a hard fought victory against a determined Newbuildings side. Two goals in the last fourteen minutes from Crossett and Emmett McKillion overturned Newbuildings’ early lead given to them by Nathan Robinson.
The home side certainly settled into the game right from the start while Celtic looked somewhat ragged again suffering from a much changed starting line up. Casey had the first opportunity to open the scoring for Newbuildings when he headed over from a corner. Indeed the home side enjoyed the majority of the possession in these early stages and they duly went into the lead on 22 minutes when a poor clearance from the Celtic defence eventually saw Robinson shoot past Martin Farniok.
Draperstown responded well with efforts from Crossett and Flanagan but Newbuildings deserved their slender advantage at half time.
The second half saw a much more determined Draperstown side take more control of the game with the majority of the game being played in the Newbuildings’ half. Killen in the home nets saved from Quinn’s free and Crossett shot wide from the edge of the box. Newbuildings showed they were still a threat and could have doubled their lead but Robinson shot wide when through on goal. The same player later attempted to lob Celtic keeper Farniok but was foiled by a smart save.
The game turned on 76 minutes when substitute Emmett McKillion set up Crossett who equalised with a fine shot from 20 yards. Draperstown took the lead three minutes later when Stephen Caulfield’s inviting cross was firmly headed past Killen by McKillion. Celtic were able to withstand Newbuildings attempts to force an equaliser and recorded the win which consolidates their place at the top of their league cup group.

Draperstown Celtic 7–1 Strabane
September 2, 2008
Draperstown’s start to the new season began to gather some momentum on Saturday at Cahore park with an emphatic win over Strabane. Following on from last week’s win over Ardstraw, Celtic soon established their authority in the game where they were never troubled and indeed could and should have added to their score.
This again was a much changed home side due to a lengthening injury list and player unavailability but the starting eleven have certainly staked a claim for their places following this display.
Dean Flanagan began the route in the 18th minute with a simple tap in after Patton fumbled Crossett’s cross and two minutes later Rodney Hassen doubled the lead with a fine goal after good work from Murchan and Flanagan. Declan Graffin shot just over on 24 minutes but the home supporters were again celebrating only a minute later when Stephen Caulfield slotted in number three from close range. Hassen made it four in the 37th minute when at the second attempt he fired past a by now bemused Strabane keeper, John Patton.
The second half again saw Celtic with the majority of the possession but a mixture of over elaboration and poor finishing saw Strabane hold out for 30 minutes before the home side added to their tally. Hassen, Caulfield and McKenna could all have scored before McKenna latched on to a through ball on 75 minutes and score with ease. Marty McGuigan came off the bench to score Celtic’s sixth three minutes later and McKenna added his second and Celtic’s seventh on 83 minutes.
Strabane scored a consolation goal courtesy of an own goal from Celtic’s Ally McLean on 85 minutes but it did nothing to disguise a poor performance from the visitors.
